The Need for Aged Care Workers is Great - Finally, Someone Taking Notice!

We spoke this week of Christine Bryden and her plea for more staff, better training and a stronger understanding of dementia in the aged care sector. We would like to share an article in the Australian Financial Review that highlights one of those three key points.

The link to the article will be shared below, but here is an excerpt for your perusal:

“Too often there are not enough staff members, particularly nurses, in home and residential aged care. In addition, the mix of staff who provide aged care is not matched to the needs of older people,” the report said.

“Aged care workers often lack sufficient skills and training to cater for the needs of older people receiving aged care services. Inadequate staffing levels, skill mix and training are principal causes of substandard care in the current system.”

This is a concern that has been raised and one that urgently needs addressing. Here's to hoping those in power choose to come to the aid of those who have chosen to put their trust in the system.
